    Talking Installing a ZIP Drive

I have a P2 133 Windows `98 PC, with 2 HARD Drives 2 & CD Drives, ALL IDE 2 from 1 IDE cable & 2 from another......So far so good....I now want to add a ZIP drive...I installed a ISA IDE card, but got a conflict message on boot up of `378 2F8 3F8` I ressed F1 to proceed and everything was normal except the IRQ`s seemed to refer to COM1 COM2 & LPT1. COM1 & COM2 are unused LPT1 I use for my scanner. The ZIP drive was not displayed ANYWHERE. I then tried disconnecting the secondry hard drive & plugged in the ZIP drive. I checked with the BIOS settings, but all the `Y` options showed zeroes !!!! I accepted this & saved the settings & received a Primary hard drive failed messsage, after removing the ZIP drive everything was returned to normal....The ZIP manual refers to jumper settings between the power connecter and IDE port, but there is NONE on my ZIP drive, possibly it`s a newer revision & is automatic, I don`t know !!!Still waiting for a reply on this from IOMEGA....Anyway is it possible to install this ZIP drive on my system with 4 existing IDE devices or do I have to disconnect one of the existing & why didn`t changing the hard drive for the ZIP work....Any help would be appreciated

you can only have four ide devices attached at any one time. major downfall to ide. when you added another multi i/o, that conflicted with your on board serial/parallel and hd controller. your only options are to get an external zip or change your system over to a good scsi system.

Get a scsi card and a scsi zip drive. Now you can keep all of your ide drives and add 7 more on the scsi card. (You CAN'T put ide drives on scsi card)

Why do I like iMacs so much? Because they have handles so I can throw them farther.

    Welcome to Windrivers samedifference

Is this an IDE zip drive or a scsi zip drive? What make and model - the thread you have woken is 6 years old so I am concerned that the advice may not apply.
