No power to drive, please help.
I have a Maxtor... I don't know what model, I don't even know the size. The label side of the drive is completely blank so I have pretty much no useful information on it. Basically my problem is this, I pulled this drive out of a computer I got from someone because they couldn't get it to work. When I first checked it out every drive in the computer powered up perfectly fine, but nothing would happen on the monitor. I found out why, but decided not to fix it. Anyway, I took the CD-ROM and HD out, and put them into my compuer. They both powered up fine on the first try, but then my computer suddenlt went dead and now the HD will no longer power on. I've tried in serval different computers with the same result. I notice that on the board side of the drive.. opposite where the patch cord and power plug in there is another place to plug something in. It's only 2 prongs, very thin and in a white plastic half box.. is this power? I know on one power supply I have there is a cord coming out that would fit exactly there, so I'm wondering if that's what it's for. I don't want to try it until I know for sure, just to be safe. If someone could help me here I'd really appreciate it.

I think you probably have a loose connection on the drives board. When you plug the power in some of these connectors are so tight you end up breaking the solder joint.
If your any good with a soldering iron you could check this.
