did you try the scsi cdrom drivers that come on the win98 boot disk? they are from adaptec and have always worked for me(except when the scsi cdrom was jumpered incorrectly)

Back when I used to work for a large mail order computer company, we always sent out CDROM boot floppy disks to the customers for reinstall purposes. On this disk we had DOS drivers for all the types of CDROMS that we sold. IDE and SCSI. I found that in the config.sys file, there were DOS drivers for the SCSI card that loaded in before the CDROM drivers. In the event that you have'nt already done this, try looking for the DOS drivers for the SCSI card and the CDROM, and then put the lines into the config.sys. The autoexec.bat file can still saty the same (i.e. a:\mscdex.exe /mscd001.) Good luck!
