Maxtor Ultra ata 100 ... win2000 etc

Okay, well I put together a new system and I was noticing that the hard disk performance of my new disk wasn't much if any better than my ata 66 drive on my other system( 1 1/2 year old drive). For hard disk controlls I have the proper VIA UDMA and whatnot installed. But win2000 displays my disk as a Maxtor scsi drive(its obviously not)

Is somthing not installed correctly? I realy have found no way of properly identifying what mode windows has the drive in. I just know somthing is not right Looking at the benchmarks for the same drive I baught on tomshardware.com i'm about 20% below those results.

Any ideas?

I have had a Promise ATA66 controller, and win98se will see it as a SCSI Controller. Not sure why this is, but that's how windows sees it. It shouldn't be a problem. Currently I am using an Abit KA7-100 motherboard with both an ATA66 and an ATA100 controllers and Win98SE/ME and 2000 all saw the ATA100 as a SCSI Controller. As long as it says ATA100 UDMA controller or something like, where it correctly identifies your controller, you shouldn't have any problems.

As far as it being faster, current programs really don't use the extra speed from 66 to 100, so you wont really notice a differnce.

Another factor in driver performance is RPMs. It could be that the hard drive in the other computer is a 7200 rpm drive, while the Maxtor is only 5400 rpm. The 7200 will perform better in benchmarks.
