Post A proud day for me

I am very happy with myself today. I fixed my very first computer. The problem started off with intermittant instances of "Operating system not found." Well, eventually they became not so intermittant and so our computer would not boot up. I immediately thought that there was a problem with the ide cable. I cracked the comp open and removed and put the cable back in and it worked fine. So i remove the comp from my counter, put it back in the comp desk(that's the worst part about it, our desk sucks so badly.), and boot it back up...and i get 4 instances of "system.ini is damaged..blah blah...cannot access *.vxd...etc." and then i get an error when windows finallys starts and the comp doesnt boot up. Several tries later it does, even though i did nothing. I reinstalled and uninstalled a program(properly this time.. ) and i get rid of 3 of those 4 errors...but we can't connect to the internet. So I create a windows boot disk(interesting side story here, while creating the boot disc the program claimed that it couldnt find a file in this folder ON THE WINDOWS 98 CD! so putting in the RIGHT folder for it it worked fine. MS can't even write programs to access their own cds properly). Well, after running windows set up 3 times(and fixing 50! corrupt dlls and probably over 50 crosslinked files) I reinstall windows...and everything works fine.

Heh, sorry for the long rambling post, I'm just so proud of myself. Hurrah!

Congratulations, and welcome to the dark side.

Your signature is dangerous, however. I don't disagree with your assessment of Microsoft... ... but there are a lot of things inside a computer you can plug in in the WRONG way...

LOL, darn right! Win95 was worse.

I love the driver update wizard that lets you browse, tells you what driver it's found that suits the hardware, then when you accept it, says it can't find it!!

Congrats on persevering & getting the job done.
