HD acts like CDrom

After installing Lotus millennium on a secondary drive, the drive now acts as a CDrom. Keep getting msg " Insert media or close door" Can read and access drive in DOS but not in windows. Any clues? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Thanks Platy, But that is not the case. I think something has been written in either the FAT or boot sector. This is the second drive in a 9 drive multi boot system that has a mixture of IDE and scsi devices. 95,98,w2k and XP all give me the same message. 3.11 reads it as a hard drive while all other OSs see it as a CDRom with no disk or with the tray open. This one has me by the Gahoonies.

FYI. Maybe this should have been under XP. Since this is a multi boot system I decided To boot in another OS, 98SE to be exact. Problem went away. Did a disc scan and defrg and all was ok. Saved important files and rebooted to XP, Problem still there, also get another message about a problem with Delayed Writes. MS has been no help and thinks I have a bad HD. BUT the drive works fine with 3 other OSs. 98SE, W2k and 95. Bearing in mind that this came about when I wanted to use Lotus Mellennium from the CD. If anybody runs int this problem or can explain it to me I would be grateful, Esp for a solution

It does sound like a problem with the media descriptor, but what can be safely done about it in a multi-boot setup like yours is out of my experience. Do you have any "Disk Doctor" type utilities to investigate with?

Afterthought: Have you checked Lotus' or your Boot Manager's sites to see if there's a known incompatability?

Thanks for the reply. Hadnt thought about checking with Lotus. This was also the first time (in XP) that I tried to runa program from CD rather than installing it.
