Apple will always be a niche product. They really need a killer mainstream app to get the marketshare they need to compete with the PC's. Torvald's comments aren't helping either. How can you mess-up a *nix kernel? That takes a certain amount of programming savvy.

Hey I think that Apple is good in it's own right and for certain applications it can't be beat.
What I thought was funny is all the hoopla Jobs was toting about OSX and comparing it to Linux. What he was trying to do was jump on the Linux-Open Source bandwagon. He was trying to get the Open-Source mentallity crowd behind him with yet another Anti-MS strategy.
And Torvalds burned him in front of everyone...LOL.

Yes, and started marketing the fact that their computers are decent technically, rather than that they come in 'Five Fruity Flavours '
