Post Grrr... im pretty steamed over this...

I walk in my office this morning (previous office of the last tech here, who has now moved to a new office {same company} around 20klm away).. and a PC I was working on is gone, assuming he has "more important things" to do with it, my 19" monitor is gone, my printer is gone, my nice chair is gone, the printer is gone, *AND* the god-damn speakers are gone.

I dont think I can convey just how un-impressed I am at the moment... I really cant.

Dude, that happened to me once when I was at TI. I had the pimp setup going on in my cubicle. I went on a 2 week vacation. When I came back, my monitor was gone (21" ViewSonic), my locked drawer had been pryed open and some of my tools were missing, and my wireless keyboard/mouse were gone. I was fuming! It turned out my boss at the time loaned my monitor to a guy to take home. Stuffed my keyboard/mouse in a cupboard. And broke the lock on my drawer to get my calipers or something like that. I just thought that was so tacky and F'ed up. I'll never forget that. I mean, he could've called or emailed to let me know what was going on so I didn't have to come back to that suprise. Anyway, I totally know how you feel about this one EC.

Webhawg did you ever consider your boss was trying to help you out.

    1. Not bugging you with unimportant office business on your well earned vacation.
    2. Buy protecting your equipement buy locking it up or storing it out of view.

I guess my point is if you own the desk and own the PC and own all the tools then you have something to quable about.

If not its company property and they can do what they want .

A little not on your desk when you got back would top off the gesture of not disturbing you.

My 2Cents or 1/2 cent who knows.

    Are you a tech dude?

Just ask, because I own my tools, and I know if anyone gets caught with their fingers in any of my toolcases, they can expect to loose them.

90% of other techs Ive worked with have the same view.. and forcing open a drawer? Company desk or not, thats just plain stupid.

And I would rather have someone call me, than go poking through my stuff.

That sounds like a complete lack of respect. I'd quit. I'd make sure no-one was trying to protect the stuff first though. Get all the information and if it turns out your boss just let someone take your stuff and won't let you have it back, quit. If they value you they won't let you leave. They'll beg your appology and come to understand what your space means to you. But, you'd have to be willing to risk losing your job.

Calm down and find out why the stuff it gone.

    Now that really sucks.
    I'd complain.

How do they expect you to do any work with no computer? (Well, no monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc...)

    (And I thought this thread was about steamed cabbage... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

I owned my own tools at work and after they got borrowed, brought my own locked box to leave at work, too, and hid it where nobody else knew its existence.

I am not sure what I would have done if anybody had ever had the gall to pry open my locked box. But it would have been something drastic. Most likely, I would have identified the culprit, collected evidence (if necessary, "allowing" them to take some other stuff), and then actually called the police on them in full view of the rest of the workplace.

Every day I'm missing somehting and I have to search the store (luckily its small, less than 15 people). When I find it, I let the person who's desk it was at that they must return the tools, or we'll start to lock them up (UInfortunatly, someone stole the key to the cabinet they used to be locked in, but they don't know that)...

The opposite happened to me when I went on vacation. I came back to a couple older computers in my work area and various other stuff for me to work on when I got back.
