    Post Dark Side of Oz

Has anyone ever done the crazy tripped out experiment where you listen to Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd while you watch the Wizard of Oz? I did it last night, and I must admit it's kind of freaky. The coolest thing, in my opinion, was how almost every scene in the movie was like, the length of a song on the album. I know Pink Floyd denies it, but there was obviously a lot of effort put into this.

I have never had the time to do that. Last time I really listened to Dark Side of the Moon was in College. Nevermind on what I was doing while listening to Dark Side of the Moon. Let's just say that college is where kids experiment. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0">

Ha ha ha, I was wondering how long it would take before this post descended into a discussion of drugs. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> (kidding!)

If you have the album laying around, you should rent the Wizard of Oz sometime. You can watch it sober with almost the same effect as when... drunk... cough... Really though, it's messed up. If you have the LP, you'll notice that the first side of the album is exactly the length of the black&white portion of the movie.

It's like Pink Floyd made anther soundtrack for the movie or something. The movie was released in 1939, and the album was in '73 (Correct me on that) It's like they specifically designed the album to match up with events from the movie. Here's a quote from a site describing the whole thing.

When the Munchkins are dancing after Dorothy arrives in Oz, the scene appears to be perfectly choreographed with the song "Us and Them"
This is true. The munchkins appear to be dancing to the song.

The coolest part of the whole ordeal has to be the tornado scene, it's very intense (even if you havn't smoked a bong in years) honest, "The Great Gig in the Sky" is the perfect song to the perfect scene. They bind together seamlessly. As glass and debre are flying and Dorothy is being blown around, the vocal screams are in perfect synchronization with the movie. You have to check this out.
Also very true. This part was pretty amazing when you consider the amount of time that would have gone into making this all happen.

Anyways, there are a ton more of cool little things that happen. Check out what google says.

It has to be the original Wizard of Oz and not the Remastered version.

We just started talking about it yesterday, you can still enjoy! Really though, if you have this album, I recommend going out and renting the movie. I used the original CD (not the re-mastered one) and DVD version of The Wizard of Oz (which is the re-mastered version).

You can tell what CD you have by looking at the prism on the cover of the CD. If it's see through, you have the original. If it's filled in, you have the re-mastered version.

As for the movie, if it was released in 1989 or later, it's the re-mastered version. The difference is, there is 1.5 seconds cut out before the munchkin scene, and 3 seconds cut out after. It doesn't really make that much of a difference, all you have to do is press pause once or twice on the movie.

To synchronize it at the start, you start the CD in your CD player, press pause, and then go back to the start of track 1 (make it pause at 00:00 of the CD). Start the movie. This part is tricky and took me a few times to get right on. When the lion roars for the third time, press play on the CD player and enjoy. You'll know that you did it right if the first tone of Speak to Me/Breathe in the Air plays when the producer's name comes up on the screen.
