PS/2 Mouse stops responding until remove/replace
strange, I've never come accross this b4. I am temporarily running on a k7s5a with a cheapo Chic opticle mouse. Twice over the last 15-20 hours of use the mouse curser has stoped responding but the mouse laser has continued functioning. As such I fear it may be a mobo prob and hope it is o/s related, really only posted because it just happened while I was posting about else. The only thing I've tried to get it working again is to remove mouse and plug back in again. Anyway has anyone got any suggestions on this one??

I've seen video drivers cause that before.

Could be IRQ conflicts or driver issues as NOO NOO said or maybe a short in the mouse. or Just a plain bad Mouse.
try another mouse and see if it still happens first?

vid drivers sound right, I recently changed agp card without formatting and suppose this is it. Thanks for input, I really didnt think graphics drier prob would do this.

Just and idea, but I had this problem once and it was because I wanted to see if the "Turbo Led" switch on my case would light up. I plugged HD lead into it and it was the wrong one. Nothing happened except the mouse froze.
Another thing you might try is to make sure the mouse is plugged in securely in the motherboard core.
Lastly I try refeshing the mouse in Control Panel

Another thing. It could be cross linked drivers, or adding unnecessary drivers. I would run Scandisk, and if that didn't work I would try to return the system to its previous state by running Scandisk /restore from DOS (if your OS will do that)
