I just listen to the radio or check out hints from friends.
I have never really understood the whole "sold out" mentality. Why do people always say this of a band that has actually achieved what they set out to- make money, become famous, and enjoy making and playing music? My favorite quote to date is from the bass player from Metallica when he was asked if they sold out - he told the interviewer that hell yes they sold out...They sold out Montreal, they sold out Seattle, they sell out every damn show they play. He just laughed and told the interviewer that was the whole point of getting in the industry anyway to play at sold out arenas and have fun.

If a song sounds good then it sounds good, if it sounds bad then it sounds bad. It doesn't matter to me personally if it is some local group or some mega group. I am what I am.

Of course one of these days I need to learn the difference between the techno styles - trance, jungle, house, and the others. I am starting to get into some of it and need to figure out what it is I am liking.

gotta agree with you on your "sold out" theory cleetus. My only gripe is that once a band has crossed over and has hit the mainstream, take their song out of rotation on the supposed "alternative" radio stations. The classic example is CREED. When they became top 40 darlings, I really didn't need to hear ARMS WIDE OPEN on the alternative station . . . it wasn't alternative anymore!! It was enough to hear it 50 times a day on top40 radio, I didn't need the "ALTERNATIVE" station playing it another 20 times a day.

I tend to listen to NPR for new music and also usually end up buying cds from the opening acts of concerts we attend. We bought the josh joplin groups stuff after seeing them open for matthew sweet.

I go to MP3.com and type in a band/group that I like and then look for similar artist.

That's how I found Tapping The Vein..

mp3.com usually has user created stations where they have a listing of their favourite artist which you can listen to using real player or media player..

Yep,.. that's what I'm thinkin too. I totally agree. Why over-analyze something that is supposed to just be entertainment. People always come over to the house. I tell them I was listening to the radio. They go, "What? Oh, I don't listen to the radio anymore." "Why not?" "Because all these bands on there are just sell outs" "oh." Listen to the radio. Enjoy the music. If the enjoyment ceases to exist, turn it off. Very simple. That's what I do. I mean, I can't sit there and listen to KSJO all day because they WILL overplay songs of course. So my real alternative, is KGO-NewsTalk 810. Much more interesting and stimulating to listen to the talk shows anyway. Anyway, I know this is off-topic, but I just wanted to agree with Cleetus here because it's oh so true.
