Bocca 33.6 won't hang up
I have a Bocca 33.6 hardware ISA modem that refuses to quit ! It works fine , but even though the computer has closed the connection , the phone line remains busy , this also occurs even when the computer is shut down !! I also have a Lucent Technologies 1641 modem w/ the same problem (different computer)...I realise I should just replace these , but if there is a fix I want to give it a try just for the learning experience.
Thanks
Bob

This tends to happen to modems that are being hit with small surges over the telephone line. The soluation is to replace them. If it has happened twice, I would consider changing the modem surge suppresser.

Hi , thanks for the reply , you are correct about the surges , I'm sure that is what did these in ,but they were not from my system , they are ones I replaced and I have been tinkering w/ them to see if I could repair them.I was thinking that possibly a command could be added to the string to make the hang up work ???

I've played and played with them in the past, haven't found anything to make them work again short of pulling the telephone cord out.
