possible bug...
I have some issues with one of my systems...
System:
Dual 1ghx p3
Abit VP6 - latest BIOS, etc
2gig of pc 133 memory
2 x 75gig deskstars (hardware mirror)
4 80gig Baxtor Diamondmax drives
20x10x40 Ricoh CDRW
12x NEC DVD
WinXP Pro
Office XP
I am getting BSODs at random instances the stop error is a 0x0000008 no other info is given in the stoP (how weak is that?). Event logs are empty of errors. I have all the latest updates from MS. I am of the opinion that it is the dual processing support in WinXP, possible a driver issue with the second processor. Any ideas?
Oh yeah, Win2k Pro works fine as does 2k server.

I would check the RAM, and perhaps the power supply. You have a lot of peripherals, with a large load placed on the PS. I assume you don't have any cooling problems of course.

PS is 650w and I haven't had any cooling issues: I have golden orbs, 6 case fans, and a system blower (server case) temp is quite nice. I thought the same thing about the memory so I switched it out with memory from my other machine (512mb pc150) and got the same error. It seems to happen most often when the machine is doing absolutely nothing (i.e. on reboot, just logged in, walked away for 10 min...BSOD.
Other items of possible importance:
Leadtek GeForce 2 Pro - possibly the issue since I am using the GTS drivers...Leadtek's driver page is down and has been for 2 weeks
Intel Pro 100 S - my standard NIC, am running this card in every machine I own and have even switch out for a know good and recieved the same issue
Soundblaster Live MP3
Sofware running on startup:
AVG antivirus - am running it on 3 other XP machines with no issue
If you have any other ideas I would appreciate it...I am getting ready to throw 2kPro back on this Sunday if I don't get it resolved.

Hey 4nik8tor, I think you are short on Hard Drive space! windows needs at least 490 Gigs free for swapfile purposes. What the heck are you doing with this crazy machine? Toy Story 3?
If you listen real close you can hear me peeing on my 650 Tbird with just the one 20GB hard drive in sorrow.
But seriously, I have noticed that the high-end machines we build here are buggy/bitchy as hell if we use OEM type generic memory. Are you using a quality brand of RAM?

Maybe the IBM drives. I know there is currently a lawsuit against them for severe probs with those HDs. I beleive I read an article in MaximumPC about it. Which drives have your OS on them?
The only info I have on that stop code is 0x0000008 means "data written".(from notes so not 100% sure of accuracy )

Have you tried the nvidia reference drivers , they are suposed to deliver better performance for the nvidia chipsets
I am using the 23.11 version of the detonator drivers in Win XP home

Well, the reference drivers seem to have fixed the issue. I haven't had a bsod since I installed them last night. Good call
