How to duel boot with WIn 98?

How can i duel boot WIN 98 and WIN XP?

u have NT boot menager!
u even don't need to make partitions

Ok if i make seperate partitions, does it matter what partition is which, and will i get a promt at boot letting me decided what OS to use.

Even though you don't need separate partitions, Microsoft recommends you do. What I would do is setup two partitions and install Win98 on your drive C:.
After that is installed then install WinXP on your second or D: partition. XP will automatically see Win98 and setup the NT boot manager so a menu comes up and asks what you want to boot to, every time you restart, or if you leave it alone for 30 seconds, XP will boot. You'll be able to change this menu though by editing the Boot.ini file on the C: drive after XP is installed.

I have a silly question...

Why does anyone really want to dual boot anyhow?

I understand if you are trying out a new OS or you find out your 500.00 program won't run on the new OS... I am just curious to know, cause I have never needed to.

I am a computer tech and i have my PC running 2000. I also have another PC at my desk that i want to Duel boot 98, and XP so that when a customer calls in i can be infornt of the same OS that they are using. We are still getting many 98 calls, plus the XP calls are getting more and more. I just want to be prepared.

It is nice having all of them handy, for the above stated reason. I like to keep sharp on all of the differences. As long as you understand the variations from one OS to the other, Troubleshooting on the fly (without an “answer” PC there in front of you) becomes easier because you have a background.

As you had stated, it also helps with application compatibility.

The best reason of all, if you only have the one PC and an OS crashes, you can always boot to the other, get on the Internet, and figure out why the other crashed! You could even put it off for a while, and figure out what is wrong over time. And you wont be a lUser, without a PC.

I'll tel you why I dual boot Win 98 and XP because Xp doesn't have drivers for my Scanner or printer and I worked long and hard to get the Joypad working. But besides that XP rocks.

The way I dual booted my sys was :

While running Win 98 with 3 4 gig hard drives I inserted the XP disk and installed it to a drive that was empty and fifteen minutes later I restarted and it asked me which O/s I would like to start my machine with.

It doesn't get any easire than that.

Microsoft recommends installing the older OS first, then Xp. I installed XPP then 98 and it would only boot to 98. I then reinstalled XPP but now can't get back into 98. It's ok because I really don't need both OSs- XPP is fine.
