    Post NTFS Question

I just formated my hard dribe and installed windows xp pro with NTFS file system other than Fat32. Now everything runs perfect, but i can not cut, copy, or rename any files in "My Sahrd Folder" for Morpheus. so i right clicked the files and folder and it had Read Only checked. I Uncheck it and click Apply and it gives me this error:

"An error occurred applying attributes to the file: C:\Program Files\Mor...\hate_in_yo_eyez.mp3
    Access is denied."

I click retry but it doesnt work. This never happened before, maybe it has something to do with NTFS. I though that it has something to do with my rights but I am logged in under adminitserator and i didn't even make any rules for any of the accounts. Any help is apreciated. Thanx in advance.

I had a similar problem once. I had an account on the pc for my wife and certain files that where installed under her account I could not delete. (even with read only unchecked) I tried under my account and the administrator account. The only way to delete was to log in as her. I am not sure if there is a take ownership option in XP as in 2000. sorry couldn't be more helpful.

Sandman72, Thanx I kinda worked around I think Morpheus doesnt work 100% under NTFS file system, I un-installed it and installed kaza and everything works fine now. It was only happening to My Shared Folder. So i just made a new folder on desktop and told kaza to download all the stuff their.

Your problem isn't NTFS. Its Morpheus......

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me and I can tell you how to prevent it from happening again but there is no way that I know of for recovering the corrupt files.

The damaged files are seen as in use by a program which is why you get the "access denied" msg. What you did was to try to move them while they were being uploaded from your computer by another morpheus user. For some reason, this tags the file and as soon as you try to play, copy, delete, or do anything to the file, it errors out. The only way that I found to remove them, was to open a dos window(XP emulation, of course!) and go to the directory and delete them from there.
    Hope this helps you out.

Kazaa may work for you, but I would definetely have second thoughts about using it. from what I understand, Kazaa is essentially the same as Morpheus (ie. it shares files with people who have either) except its spyware. I don't personally use it, so I may not be the best authority on this, but I believe there was a thread a while back about it. Anyway, if I were I would be wary about using Kazaa...

Kazaa came first...and its internationally owned and was supposed to (hint *supposed to*) keep from treading on any label rights....but thats another story.

morpheus and music city are ripoffs of kazaa..but they DO work together.

kazaa has some spyware in it...but so does morpheus. in fact..they have the EXACT same packaged spyware.

morpheus on the other hand, since its american owned, records ALL, repeat, ALL, transmissions of files between everyone. And stores them. Law enforcement people have actually arrested some major sources of mp3 and movie ripping using morpheus.

Unfortuantely, both are soon to be shutdown...so it really doesn't matter.
