    Post Windows Update and SP

    Config:
    1.2 ghz TBird
    MSI 6330 mobo
    GEForce2 32mb vid
    30gb IBM
    30gb WD
    868 mb PC133
    HP USB cdwriter
    Pioneer 16x DVD
    Win XP Pro
    Latest drivers and bios

I've had several updates from microsoft fail on install but Windows Update never says why they failed. Tried looking at installation history and that doesn't say either. Anyone have this problem?

Also, any rumors about when an SP for XP is comimg out?

SP1 for windows xp is not due out till late this year.

can you give more details on your system, how you installed it, if it was an upgrade or full version, etc?

If Windows Update doesn't work, you can manually download and install the patches using this link:

Problem seems to have stopped when I enabled auto-update. It was when I was updating manually from Windows Update that failures would happen. Not sure why....thanks to all...d

I too had problem I solved it in the following way.

Look for the Winupdate directory getting created on your HD when the downloads start. Before all the patches are downloaded go on copying (not moving !) each patch within each subfolder under winupdate, to a directory which you keep in mind. Once the patches start installing i.e. after the EULA is presented for acceptance, they are deleted and vanish even from the Recycle Bin or from the subfolders of Winupdate directory, so copying them is must. Now even if the install fails, (mind well at this point of time downloads are through) you can safely disconnect and install the patches manually. It also helps in keeping backup, in case you need to reformat and install XP again. It saves you the pacth download time. In this case however the history of patches updated by site will NOT show these patches. This aspect is also mentioned on the History page.
Together we can change the world !

one thing i haven't mentioned is that the updates from microsoft during the install will come up and say that they haven't been tested for XP. Install at my own risk, basically. How odd, especially since the updates come from microsoft.....;d)

I will manually try and update every few weeks, it keeps my system running, and before any update I set a restore point, just incase it gets hosed.
