    Post XP Pro and SBLive

    Config:
    Athlon 600 mhz
    MS-6167 mainboard
    IBM 30 gb hd
    SBlive Plat
    640 mb ram

    Upgrade from Win98 to XP Pro. Installed all updates from Win Update. Installed SBLive XP
    drivers from SBLive site. No sound.
    Went into Control Panel and under volume tab,
    device volume is muted. I am unable to unmute (machine will not allow uncheck of mute box).

    Any suggestions?....thanks....d

    Go into the System Control Panel, click on Device Manager and make sure that there aren't any conflicts or errors with the SBLive.

    Also check the Event Viewer for any failed services.

    thanks for the suggestion. looked in device manager and found something that i didn't expect would be related to the problem. displayed hidden devices and it showed an NT APM legacy node as disabled. enabled it and the machine let me unchceck the mute box. go figure. i don't even know what NT APM support is (power management??) but i'll find out. thanks again. sometimes you just need to point someone in the right direction.....d
