Cannot get rid of windows messenger
I cannot get rid of windows messenger.
I have tried removing the 'hide' line in sysoc.inf and uninsatlling from control panel, but for some reason it does not work. I have successfully done this before, but i just bought a new mb and reloaded windows, and cannot get rid of the dang thing.
Any ideas?

This has to be done for each login profile, but if you use only one, this shouldn't be much of a hastle.
You actually have to open Messenger, goto tools\options... then under preferences, uncheck "run this program at startup", and "allow this program to run in the background." Then exit Messenger; you should never see it.

Oh. Duh. I never thought of actually OPENING the program!
How come this worked for me before and I didn't have to open the program?

I am not sure how you may have done it another way. I recall seeing allot of threads before about this topic, but didn't remember a solution. I popped my cherry last night with XP, and was quite annoyed right away with the stupid Icon in the systray, so I looked for the first easy method I could find. That was what I gave you…maybe someone else has an idea…

If you go into the application and remove it from the startup there, it eliminates the registry entry for you.

Cygnus-- Yeah, i got used to removing it by changing the line in sysoc.inf, then having it show up in add remove programs-- got me kinda stumped when that changed-- who'da thunk it? they made it easy to shut down for once!
