serial ports
windows xp seems to access serial ports differently to win 98.
reason - my camera software loads fine in both os'es, but i get an error when actually transerring files in win xp.
camera = panasonic dc1000b (i think) which uses a serial connection, sadly.

Have you checked the: <a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=3787" target="_blank">Hardware Compatibility List</a> ?
A device that is not on the HCL might function, but is not supported Windows XP.

I also sometimes get a "Port unavailable" (not sure about the syntax) on COM1 where my Palm Pilot sync cable is plugged in.
If I wait long enough (time varies from 10 minutes to 2 days), it will become available on its own. Refreshing the device list does not help.
I'm wondering if it's a PnP problem...

I haven't had a problem with any serial ports. But then again, all I have plugged into it is my cisco 678 hyperterminal link.

hmmm a pnp problem? how would i fix that?
my camera is not in the hcl, but neither is most of my hardware, so im not overly worried about that. it may be that it simply wont work in xp, but it seems like a simple problem...
