    Wink Dynamic or Basic??????

A question was just brought up to me that I just must admit I don't know the answer to. Is there anny benefit or reason in XP Pro on a stand alone system, to convert from a basic disk to a dynamic?
This ia a system with a single 40 gig drive with only one partition on it.

My first impression would be no. Now, I'll explain way and i may be a bit off in my explanations cause i'm taking this knowledge from 2k.

Dynamic disks are used when yo uwant to strip, mirror or add parity to a file system. To do this, you need multiple hard disks and sometimes multiple partitions. In your case, one drive, one partition, going to dynamic would be useles since you can't make use of the software RAID.

You've got a point, but actually the advantage of using Dynamic discs as opposed to Basic is the ability to use more than 4 primary partitions on the drive, and actually thinking about it I think basic disc partitions only allow 3 primary partition. Primary partitions being such that an operating system can boot from them.
But I agree, there's no advantage in a one partition one OS system to make the discs dynamic.

Thanks for the replies, I can now go to the customer with a better answert than I'm not sure.
I had a feeling that that was the answer, I just wanted to get a conformation.
