Angry Win XP Pro on a Win NT 4.0 Domain

A member of senior management has asked me to configure her Dell 8100 laptop (which has Win XP Pro installed on it) for network access. The IP address, gateway, WINS, DNS info has been inputed. When I attempt to log onto the network I get an "Accessis Denied" message. I am able to ping the server and a number of devices on the network. I've been to Microsoft's website and have tried what they've suggested but no cigar. Perhaps there's something I've overlooked or maybe just a compatibility issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can anyone logon with her machine? If not, delete the computer account in server manager, make the machine a member of a workgroup again, re-create the computer account, rejoin the domain.

Thanks. Although I won't be able to try this until she returns from vacation.

i dont think there are any compatibility issues because i have setup 2 winxp pro machines and 1 of them was a dell 8100 and they connected to our nt4 domain witout a problem.... i think someone posted a message saying that you needed sp6 installed on the nt4 machines but iam not sure... btw we do have sp6 installed.

I'm also running a XP workstation on our NT4 domain, without a problem. I'm assuming when you added it to the domain initially there was no problems and your received the "Welcome X Domain" message. Is there any errors in the event viewer either on the XP system itself or the PDC and BDCs ? If not I'd probably just take the same advice as above and remove it from the domain and re-add it.

I have added an xp machine or two to our domain, and the PDC isn't on sp6. I think it's on sp4, but I know it's not on sp6.

Of course I could be wrong. Stranger things have happened.

When I did mess with one xp machine I do remember having to remove it from the Server Manager on the PDC, because I had to rename it. Otherwise it wouldn't rejoin the domain under the new name.
