[RESOLVED] Thought the RTM would solve this, but.....
Hi everyone. Having a little trouble that I know many other people have had, and was wondering if someone could point me to a good resource for troubleshooting.
My problem is that I can't install XP on my machine. I have used the same disk to install on another machine, and everything works fine. I have tried pulling all peripherals, to now avail. I realize there are probably many reasons why I can't seem to install on my main computer (install just locks up at the first Starting XP screen, before it even asks if I want to install.) If I try to run setup from inside Windows 2000, it tells me "Upgrading from Windows 2000 is not supported - Please boot from CD and run setup" or something. (Which seems a little odd in and of itself).
Anyway, I'm sure others have encountered this before, so if there is a KB article or some other resource concerning installation issues, I'd be much obliged.

I had the same problem on several machines. What I did was update the BIOS on the motherboard(Look BIOS Win2000 fixes on the MB manufacturer web site), and then go into to BIOS and load ether the BIOS default settings for all pages or the BIOS failsafe defaults for all pages.
So far this is what worked for three machines with your exact problem.

i had the same prob, my WinXP Pro 2600 installed flawlessly on my laptop, but hated my PC. I updated my bios, reset bios settings to default, and it installed fine.
