ATI Rage XL
Hey Gang,
My company builds a lot of office workstations and we generally use 8 mg ATI Rage XL AGP vid cards. (Inexpensive and a nice card for office use.) Unfortunately, when ever I try to install Win XP Home Edition on a system with this particular card, the mouse produces streaks on the monitor and eventually (usually when you get to the user info) the system hard locks. Is this a known issue and if so, can we get around it without switching vid cards?
Thanks for the input in advance

Are the Rage XL on the XP Hardware Compatiability list? If they are then ATI should release some new drivers after XP goes retail. If not then you may have to change cards unless ATI release new drivers for XP.
You could try the latest Win2K drivers for the card as this does solve a lot of problems with the XP default drivers on the Radeon chipsets, which may be the same on your cards.

Actually it's already an onbaord driver.
R.click my comp/add new hardware wiz/next/yes/add a new hardware device(down the bottom)/next/install from a list(advanced)/next/display adapters/next/pick your driver.
Hope that helped.

WEIRD!!!
When I went in to try your idea Darren, the system refused the W2K drivers from the cd but then reloaded the drivers from within XP and the system stabilized and is currently running great. Apparently XP missed some files or something the first time it installed the driver.
Thanks again for the replies guys.
