Red Faction
I was using Win98se, but now I am running XP Pro. I have been playing the game Red Faction lately, and when I upgraded to xp, the intro "THQ" video and start menu, are there but it is split up and arranged differently, like the bottom right corner might be in the middle or the top left corner. I know it runs in xp, my friend has the game and he runs it in xp pro also. Any sugg.?

I have a laptop with ATI rage 8mb, downloaded the last drivers for xp from ati, red faction has a ver. 1.10 update, downloaded that, with the orgianl 1.00, it looks the same but i can't click anything, or use the keyboard, or ctrl alt del, with the 1.10 ver. i can use the keyboard and mouse, to exit or start the game even, if i exit it quits just fine, if i try to run a game, it reboots.

It might run in XP on some other guy's computer, but is he using the same video card as you? The problems with the into makes this sound like a video driver problem for sure. I'd suggest a DirectX update, but XP is brand new. Submit a bug report to ATI and hopefully they'll look into it...

I have Red Faction and I've also had some problems with running it on Win2k and XP. Part of the problem is that it's not officially supported. Now normally this can be rendered unimportant by a knowledgeable installer, but I've had no luck. Having worked in the video game industry for several years as a beta tester, developer, and support representative, I have normally been able to fix most problems. However, with Red Faction, my PC reboots after the opening movie plays. Some things I've done that seem to help a bit are:
1. Newest drivers available
2. Shutdown background apps
3. Run in 32 bit color
4. Set the cache in the setup menu to 32
5. I know this will raise the legality flags, but cracking the game to avoid the initial CD check seemed to help get past the initial "push" that Red Faction undergoes at startup.
All of the problems I've seen form various people so far seem to be related to initial startup. I know that Red Faction was rushed out the door, and I would expect a fuller patch to arrive on the scene once XP becomes more entrenched.
Peace,
Evan

I have the lastest drivers
I am runnig in 32 bit color
I have tried the cache at 8, 16, and 32
No shut down app.
And it is a copyed cd.
I just hope they come out with an update soon. On a side note, in XP, my UT GOTYE runs great! I have it set at 1024x768 --- 32 Bit color --- high skin detail --- high texture detail on my 8mb ATI RAGE M. laptop, very little skipping.
