    Post pcmcia modem problem

I installed a pcmcia modem on a laptop and am having trouble. I cannot get it to work.

When I try to connect, it tells me there is no dial tone. There is because I then connect on the same line with my pc (which is how I am posting this).
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

First I had trouble with the Dial Up Networking. It kept telling me that it is not installed. I reinstalled Windows over the old Windows and then DUN worked, but it will not dial. I also tried with the Phone Dialer and got the same results.

    Any ideas?

check it out, try using hyperterminal and see if it can dial out.

make sure that there are not other programs that use the modem open. ie fas SW email Sw etc...

usually I am told that if there is no dial tone error on a modem 4out 5 times it is a bad modem.

If you know for a fact that it was working before and you have no reason to suspect that it could have gone bad, then I would try removing all start-up programs that would have anything to do with the modem. Another thing I would try is to disable Anti-virus software for a second and then try and connect. If still no luck, try un-installing and then re-installing DUN.

I have no idea if it was working before. It is a new modem out of the box. Also, I already uninstalled and reinstalled DUN...
