Post I can't find WinXP drivers anywhere!

Can anyone tell me where i can get Directx8 that works with Winxp and drivers for Voodoo3 2000 PCI? I've been looking for about a week now and can't find them anywhere. I tried the Win2k versions of those but they don't work. This WinXp has been nothing but trouble for me since I got it.

    Thanks for any help

1-DirectX 8.1 comes intalled with XP (or at least it did with my copy)-

2- Have you contacted the Voodoo people and asked them when their XP drivers are going to be available?

I don't think there's any plans for voodoo drivers to be made availiable for XP. I am only running a banshee in this system, but I feel sorry for those people that dropped mega-bucks on the newer voodoo cards right before they shut down.

    Question

No native XP drivers for the Voodoo 3? Please tell me you're joking. Considering how hard MS is pushing this OS it's pretty short sighted of them not to develope a driver for such a popular card. What did they think, that just because 3DFX went belly up everyone was going to immediately yank their video cards out of their systems and throw them in the garbage? Even though that chipset is starting to get a little long in the tooth it's still a solid performer and the guess here is most people won't be easily swayed to give up their cards just so they can upgrade their OS. Hard to believe MS would shoot themselves in the foot like that. I'm truly stunned.

    Exclamation

3DFX was bought out by Nvidia, it's upto them if they will support them.

I bought a Voodoo 5500 apg a week before 3DFX went under, but fortunatly I sold it to a customer I was building a sytem for his kids

I had a Voodoo 3 in my Computer when I upgraded to XP Pro, and had no problems. XP has a default driver for the card in it's database. But, I don't think the windows default driver supports 3dfx tools such as Glide and the works. You can't expect Microsoft to do all the work with drivers to get ALL the extra features. MS made sure the devices would work properly, and do what they needed to do. Any advanced stuff would have to come from the manufacters or other people with "hacked" drivers.

Here's a news flash for alot of people, MS does NOT make video cards, printers, NIC cards so on and so forth so it's NOT up to them to make drivers for Voodoo cards...talk to NVidia about that, and if you end up tossing your Voodoo card don't blame MS, again talk to NVidia.
And that goes for any other card or piece of hardware NOT made by Microsoft.

This issue has more to do with compatibility than it does support, so I don't think your argument holds much water. The Ford Motor Company may not be in the business of making gas, but if they developed a car that wouldn't run on regular unleaded gasoline how many people do you think would buy it?

My whole rant was based on the misplaced conception that there was not a Voodoo 3 driver native to XP, as it turns out, XP DOES have a native driver so my point was moot anyway. I would been have shocked if it didn't.

Did you read the responses to your original post? The very first response informed you correctly that DirectX 8.1 is already integrated into WindowsXP--It's already installed on your system.
