Yep just enable the guest account on the XP box and make sure to use a crossover cable. Also make sure that the Netbuei protocol is installed and that you have file sharing enabled.

If both computers have network cards you can use a crossover cable for Cat5 or a plain ole BNC cable if your NICs have the BNC hookup which looks like the plug on the back of your TV that your TV cable hooks up with, kinda. But Cat5 is better.

Other ways include using laplink if you are just looking to transfer data between the 2 every once in a while if they are close together, like a couple feet.

Sorry, should havetold you, only one machine has a network card, and the other machine cant have one fitted, as this is a customers machine and we are advising them over the phone, and they seem to have something against networking for some reason.

btw thanx for the replys so far!

I don't believe XP supports direct connection natively. You may have to install LapLink or something similar. But I could be wrong, if I ever need to transfer something between two machines I always pop in a NIC and do it that way. But I could be wrong...

    Wink

In WinXP you can try this. Go to Accessories-Communications-New Connection Wizard. The Set Up Advanced connection says you can use a serial or paralell cable. It looks like the Direct Cable connection in win9x.
