Windows XP does not recognize CD-Rom disc change
Windows XP does not recognize the CD in the drive when the CD is changed after bootup. If the CD is in the drive at bootup, XP will recognize and run the CD properly.
Any ideas?
This only happens on Windows XP. In these cases, I am using Pentium 4 DFI motherboards (i850 chipset) and Acer CD-Rom Drives (some with AOpen CD-RW Drives).

I still have this problem even after changing the motherboard to an Intel board. Any ideas?

check for updated ide drivers for your board.
Try a different ide cable.
Try a different cd-rom drive.

This is usually something wrong with the drive. I had to replace a brand new 56x a couple days ago for the very same reason. RMA'd the first, the replacement worked fine.

I am not nay-saying that possibility, but I can say that I have this same issue with at least 10 machines (unique drives in each). Also, I failed to mention that the same issue pops up with XP Home and, seemingly, in fuller force.
