OpenGL and other types of 3D screensavers have been trouble makers for as long as I can remember. I can't tell you how many headaches Microsoft's Organic Art screensaver caused. If you're not already, try configuring the saver to run at the same resolution and color depth that you are currently using. It's been my experience that bad things can happen when a program messes with your display settings.

Open Display Properties from the Control Panel. Then click the Settings tab, click the advanced button. Then from the new window that opens, click the troubleshoot tab, then lower the graphics acceleration one notch at a time until the problem goes away. You'll have to reboot each time you lower this setting.
