Exclamation Free space for system use

HI there , I am running Win xp home on my Pentuim 3 based system that has two physical drives which are partitioned into two partitons each
I have Norton sys works 2002 installed , I do not have that system doctor, I basically have the antivirus and some of the utilities I find usefull installed, One of those utilites is the speed disk defragmenter
When I run a defrag I notice that windows places a large amount of free space for system use at the begining of each drive
I have tried the wild card entry for my boot drive and it worked for a while
When I had Win 9x , speed disk would place my swap file at the begining of the drive ( fixed size )and then my files, all the free space would follow the files of course
Does amy one know of a setting I could tweak, I am running the NTFS system on all my drives as well , thanks in advance
    Format c I'm givin er all she's got cap'in !!! )

But, I don't believe it makes any difference, as long as it works.

    Lightbulb

Is your swap file fixed size now? If not the defrag software may be estimating the amount that the swap file could grow to, and leaving that amount of space at the first part of the disk.

    Talking

I have the swap file set to a fixed size , I know under Win 9x Norton would place the swap file at the begining of the drive when I set te size to a fixed value but in XP I have a few gigs of space set aside for system use , I have the swap file on my other physical drive which is of the same size and speed as my master ( I have twin 30 gig Quantum ata 100 drives ), I just think it is a waste of space
