New file does not open...HELP
Here is a doozy...I open Word 97, and instead of opening to a blank new page, it opens to an old file even after deleting that file. I have bypassed all the shortcuts to Word and executed winword.exe and still the same result. I can make changes(deleted the contents of the file)and saved the changes, but when I reopen Word, it reverts to the original file. Does anyone know what to try? Thanks for your help

Try turning off the AutoRecover feature in Options. Also clean out all files in your temp directories. Get a clean copy of normal.dot.

The file mentioned (scanprot.dot) is an ancient template first written to deal with the first Word virus (prank).
It is not intended to 'reset' your normal.dot file as this is acheived by simply renaming the existing one.
Once Word is restarted, a new 'factory default' is created and is reeady for you to use/customise.
