Okay This is the first post here!
And just to make it offical Yes I have Office 2000 Installed ! I was just wondering why when I installed it the first time it didn't install all the bells and whistels I had to keep installing stuff Power Point YOU need the CD to install This Templet, etc.
Word YOU need to install this feature from the CD ? You would think Microsoft would let you install everything at once. Okay Sometimes I guess I'm lazy.
Well That is my $00.02 worth.
And Hay It's not a Virgin site anymore!! LOL

Office2000 offers some wonderful features, do you think the new XP can really improve the suite very much. I am talking $$$+ hastle to install, will it be worth it. I have seen some Beta snippets and it doesnt look much different so far.

You know that if you choose a custom install, you can still choose everything you want or need up front and you won't be bothered for the CD all the time...

Office 2000 and Windows 2000 obviously were developed with business in mind. The seminar I attended on Office 2000 before it was actually released contained alot of information on the "install on demand" issue. Whenever you perform a normal install it only loads the basic functions for each program to save time and space. However when you try to access a feature that isn't installed it looks to the location the software was installed from be it a cd-rom drive or a server. The idea behind this (so they said) was that a network administrator could load the entire software package onto a network server and install the basic program on each workstation from the server. Since the program looks to the "installation location" to install a feature, the workstations would automatically look to the server to install each feature when it's first accessed by the enduser. Like I said, it's supposed to happen automatically. This made the migration process much simpler and cut down dramatically on the network administrator's need to intervene. At the same time, only installing features that were need at certain locations. Theoretically, (so they said again) if you installed the program on a standalone system from the cd-rom drive and left the cd in the drive (bummer) then it would automatically install the features as you accessed them. Try it sometime and see if it really works that way.

I just copy the CD to my HD and install from there, when it needs to install another part it gets it from the installion spot..

Also I started the install at 2:00 AM and took a power nap ! ya thats it power nap!
Woke up at 5:00 AM sitting in front of this Damn machine w/ a stiff neck and my CNE book stuck to my face ! It just installed !
My fault !

I got tried of finding the CD everytime I started some other project.. it took a few till i came up with that one, now I do it for any program that has that feture.

I laughed my *** off when I read this because I've fallen asleep programming to wake up to a series of critical beeps and a module full of jjjj's.

Yeah...I once was a tutor for office 2k so I hope I can help some people on here.

I too am annoyed at the forced registration that Microsoft has imposed on users. One way I found to get around this however is to edit the setup.ini file in the root of the CD. I have heard some people mention an installation from HDD so I am guessing this can apply for that, though I made changes to the setup.ini file then re-burned it to another CD. In the setup.ini file there a section that appears as follows:
;USERNAME=Customer
If you add the following line, replacing X with the products registration number, so the entry looks like:
;USERNAME=Customer
PIDKEY=X
Don't include the - between sets of numbers. When installing the software it should automatically enter this number as the Product ID so then it's just a matter of installing as usual.
