microtek take-it 350 recognition problem
Hi,
Background info:
1) Computer: HP Vectra VEi7 466Mhz Celeron
2) O/S: Windows 98 second edition
3) System: USB Controller
-SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
-USB Root Hub
* No conflicts and software loaded with no problem.
PROBLEM: When I try to download pictures I get error - "Camera not ready"
Tried camera on neighbors AMD w/Windows Me and it works without problems.
Is it a problem with OS/Usb or drivers???
Please Help. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

There doesnt seem to be a lot of info on this camera - I would look at the usb in device manager, you said there is no conflicts, but is the usb controller sharing an irq and if so what with?

How can you tell if it's sharing an IRQ?
IRQ=?
One other thing I remember is that win 98se recognized the attached camera as some unknown audio device and I had to search for and manually choose the driver. However when my neighbor loaded the software/driver, win Me automatically loaded the driver.

Right click my computer
select properties
select device manager tab
hit the properties button at the bottom of the window
All your irqs are listed.

I assume you would have to look at it by selecting view device by connection.
Doing it that way it looks like it is on the PCI bus along with just about everything:
1 Best Data Modem Enumerator
2 PCI Multimedia Audio Device
3 PCI standard host CPU bridge
4 PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
5 SiS 5513 Dual PCI IDE Controller
6 SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
7 SiS PCI to ISA bridge
8 SiS PMU device
9 Vortex AU88810 Multifunction PCI platform
#2 has no device driver - it's prpbably the audio on board - I install a PCI sound card which is currently working fine. some of the above have roots to them like #6 which has:USB Root hub
Does that make any sense?

OK, it works in ME but is flakey in 98. The usb looks ok, so I think you are looking at driver issues.
How far do you want to go to prove it? I personally would do a clean install and then load just the camera and see if the result is the same...
If you don't want to go that far, then you should try the 95 driver if it exists on the cd - or try finding the inf files on the cd and updating the device that way.

Thanks for the help...
...I tried my neighbors zip drive/usb and that was not recognized either - must be the usb port/connection on the board.
