3 megapixel

I have been doing some shopping for camera's. I have a limited budget but the guy at the local Best(not really)Buy keeps trying to sell me a $700 camera. My question is, what is the advantage of a 3 megapixel camera if my printer doesn't handle the resolution? All I am looking for is something to just take a few pictures and maybe put them on a web page.

Of course he's trying to sell you the expensive one, he's on commission. This time, use the salesperson to your advantage. Take some pictures with each camera, of the inside of the store, etc. and then take home the pictures on disk to compare them. He should be more than happy to help you in this endeavor. You will also get a feel for the different desktop software each camera uses and the speed of transfer. If they are JPG's they should fit on a floppy disk.

Of course you get what you pay for (mostly) but a 1 megapixel camera can take great shots for putting on webpages. Especially if you are resampling them down to a smaller size. But once you start using a digital camera you may want to use it to do more (like replace your 35mm camera entirely) and forget about prints. Just load the pix on CD's.

I'd say none. If you want higher the higher res down the road then you can buy a new camera later and it'll prolly be cheaper. You know the way technology is priced.

I bought a 1.3 megapixel and wish I had gotten a better one. After you see what you can do with the photos, you will want the extra pixels. There are numerous places you can upload your pics and get prints. I am holding out until the SLR styled digital bodies become reasonably priced. try them out at Best Buy, then look for what you want online...you will save.

I just bought an Olympus D-490z and took it to Hawaii the day after I got it. Not only was it easy to use but the pics came out great. Check it out. For $395, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Pretty nice setup. That is about what I am looking for and the price seems to be ok too.

I use Olympus D-360L 1.3 Megapixel cost around $300.00. This camera takes really good pictures and prints a 5X7 photo on a printer .Software is easy to use and uses AA Battery's.

I just bought the same exact camera and LOVE it! Photo's are beautiful, it's easy to use, and with the retracting lens, easy to fit in your pocket.

I have a 1.3 Megapixel Kodak that I won at Interop Atlanta in '99 (Thanks Cable and Wireless!) Anywho, I bought a HP Photosmart P1000 to print my picutures off at home, and as long as you keep the picture size down to 5x7 its VERY hard to tell it was taken with a digital camera. Any size above that and it pixilates and looks crappy. I would spring for a higher pixel camera if I was doing more than 5x7 prints. I have not tried to print anything on the HP 1055CM plotter I have at work, but I figures if it pixiates at 8x11 it would REALLY pixilate at 24x36...

I recently purchased a Fuji 2200 for £240, in the states the same camera sells for around $220 - $250. It is a 2.1 megapixel and can take photo's at 640x480, 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 this is further broken down to Fine, Normal and basic. The picture quality is fantastic and you get an 8mb smart media card also.As it is USB, download speeds are phenomenal. It should be more than adequate for web page design. Definitly recomended

Finally, after all this time I bought my camera. They replaced the D-490 with the D510. This camera is an absolute dream. After rebate it is $349 U.S. It takes great pictures even with the flash turned off. It has ISO settings and the Quicktime video is neat.
The only complaint is I occasionally bump the lens cover and turn the camera off.
