Does anyone have any recommendations for a good security book?

I read most of maximum security and it's a really good intro to how a hacker breaks into your system. I found it a little dated though.

I found the little black book on windows 2k security to be pretty insightfull

The Hacking Exposed books are really good. Offers the attack and the protection against. They now have them for specific OSs such as linux and win2k. I havent read the win2k or linux one but Ive heard great things

Also Securing Windows NT/2000 Servers for the Internet from O'Reilley. Short but very informative. Its more of a how-to book rather than theory and tells you how to secure a server.

Malicious Mobile Code from O'Reilley. Only talks about viruses, trojans, etc. but gives good ways to protect against them.

And for the newbie get Network Security: A Beginner's Guide. Very broad talks about everything from policy to firewalls. Its mainly OS neutral

Yes, I did like the Hacking Exposed, very, very informative. Also for the newbe, get "Steal This Computer Book" volume 1 and 2. (Not sure if there's any more volumes.) Very easy to read, and very, very informative. Slightly dated though, and most of the links in the book are long gone....

I've been reading "Peter Norton's Network Security Fundamentals" or summin like that, i's not bad for starters.

I'm reading Hacking Exposed now, excellent book. Need to brush up on my unix
