    Question Winmodem troubleshooting

    Windrivers,

I am experiencing technical difficulties. First, the problems:
    (1) Windows installs voice winmodem driver for my non-voice winmodem.
    (2) winmodem then dials and dials and dials and never connects to my isp server. Always says line is busy. I can hear the modem dialing out, etc., etc.
This modem was purchased as an OEM (white box) and came with cord and CD-ROM with manuals and drivers.
Currently there are no hardware conflicts listed in my device manager.
The modem diagnostic communicates with modem with evidently no problems.
Windows says the device is working properly.
As of 5 June, I had all updated drivers for all devices except for winmodem. (I purchased this winmodem on 20 Mar 00.)
    Specifics of my system:
    ASUS K7V Slot A M/B
    700Mhz AMD Athlon
30.7GB Maxtor plus 40 HDD (master EIDE ch. 1)
Zip 250MB internal drive (slave ch. 1)
    1.44 Teac floppy
    Plextor 32x8x4 CD/RW (master EIDE ch. 2)
    Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM (slave ch.2)
    Soundblaster Live X-Gamer sound card
Diamond Viper II Z200 video card
    Viewsonic GS790 19" monitor
    Precision Pro Joystick
    Labtec Surround Speakers
    Epson Stylus Photo 750 printer
Running Windows 98 Special Edition Plus!
    Office 2000
    Adobe Photoshop 5.5
    Norton A/V 2000
    Various games and utilities.
    No LAN/Ethernet cards
All software/hardware operates normally (except winmodem)
I am dialing in Japan to a local ATT ISP.
All ISP install info entered twice through setup wizard.

Attach a phone to the line and listen in when it's dialing, see if it really is a busy signal. If so you need to adjust the number that the modem is dialing.
