No More Righ Mouse Click

For some reason I am not able to right mouse click the folders in 'Programs'. I used to find the 'Sort by Name' function useful to keep everything in order.

Does anybody know if it is a registry entry or something like that.

I have re-installed Windows 98SE but to no avail.

Which mouse do you have?
Are you sure its plugged in securely?
Try changing the settings in control panel mouse to a left handed mouse and then seeing if the left button will perform the right click action... if the right button will not then perform the left click actions, your right clickability is faulty at the mouse.

is the right key doing anything? ,,or is it dead

as noo noo has said , check the plug + settings ,,,

you may find that the mouse is faulty ,,,the lead going into the mouse often breaks ,,also the micro switch could be faulty

if you are feeling enthusiastic u could cut the last 2" from the lead and re-solder it ,,,but i think substitution is the cheapest / quickest way

I can right mouse click correctly every where apart from in the program list.

This is an old Tiny machine (UK) and as I unserstand it the installation they do turns this function off some how!

There is nothing wrong with the mouse so there must be a setting somewhere?

i,m sorry but i have worked on tiny/time machines , in the past ,,,and not come across this aspect of there version of windows.

one of the first things i do with any 9x machine is load tweakui ,,,and this involves right clicking the inf file.

ok i ,ve not got a 98 machine here at the moment , but if u go into control panel/mouse and under the section ,,buttons there is a jack-in-the - box in the bottom right ,,,,,ok left click this ,,,,,ok ? now right click this ,,,,,does it say "whats this"


if it does then your mouse is working , if not ,,,I would still recomend changing the mouse for a known good one ,,,,or test yours on a friends

ok, I am not using the o/s u are using , have you checked (on another machine with same o/s) that this is possible ? also have you checked your mouse on another machine to see if it does do the operation, then there is a flaw in your o/s.

to my knolage tiny/time do dot disable features of win 9x (at least this one)

if every thing checks out ok ,,then you may well have disabled the feature your self ,,,unless you wish to do a full format/restore you may have to live with this , because by re-installing over the origional o/s the problem will still be there
