pci generic network card
I ate so much $#$@ with the pci network cards of the realtek chipset and winbond.
you wont believe how weird they behave in a net.
i use only raltek 8019 isa card from now on or 3com 905xl stuff!!!
waisted so many days of my youth

There is a problem with 3Com NICs that shows up in older buildings with ground loop problems. They work poorly, if at all. They have very high rates of failure.
I agree that 3Com cards are excellent in stable electical environments, but ........ in adverse conditions I would now go with Intel Pro 100 series NICs every time.
