Market Research Request!

OK all, as a lot of you know, Sprint PCS is releasing its "3G" soon.

We're compiling what people might use with the data aspect of it, and i'm asking you for input.

What do you think people would use for (how many per month, week, or day) on their cel phone:

Instant messages
Emails without any attachments (text only)
Emails with attachments (any)
Downloading a screensaver or ringer
Pictures
Downloadable games

Figure this would be included with your plan, and we're just putting together rough nu,bers (but not intended for billing purposes).


Please include the numbers, and the type of user you are describing. I'm sure people like Mac and Adept could easily say for a techie while NooNoo might be able to include for a parent easily, while Spiff could be an example of a corperate exec (funny thought just came into my mind with that one.. ).
Also the timeframe (day, month, or week).

I use wireless web currently only about 30 minutes a month and thats for email and for IM

OK, internet access on my phone I have and have never ever used! People text message me if they want to... but they cost like 14c per message regardless of the number of characters... for that you can talk for 5 mins in the evening and not be restricted to 160 characters!

From a parental point of view and a net fan, the only reason I would be using net access on a silly little phone screen is if there was no other way to contact a person that had to be contacted at all costs.

I'm not looking for how many minutes, I'm looking for how many of the above mentioned, and what you would use, say it was included with your plan or something.

We're trying to make lists of what an average user would use.

How many IM's? How many ringers? etc...

None for me I am afraid.

If cost was not a factor, then I would use the IM feature both at the office and home. I would estimate my ususage would be around 10 a day.

Yeah, I'd probably use the e-mail aspect more than anything else. Probably 10x more than any other feature, with IM coming in second, then ringers and games.

I've never used the internet on my phone, but I've heard that it is a horrible experience. Sprint will probably get just one chance to impress uses before they dismiss the new tech. I hope they get it right.

Ah, the Wireless Web....I bought some shares of Openwave Systems (in case you have never heard of them...they had a big part in developing the WAP standards and have made a lot of wireless phone browsers) and they went down miserably maybe with 3G they will bounce back up again.

I don't see the point of instant messaging on a phone-- I'd rather just call somebody if I've got a phone right in front of me. It's annoying, and limited to 160 chars anyway.

Mobile videoconferencing would be very awesome, rates would probably be insane (read: corp-only) to begin with but would eventually go down into consumer range...

Within a year we'll be VERY close to that, we'll just have to get the transfer speeds up...

The equipment is already there, just need the network to support it...
