Hi cc_penguin!
Technically, I was back that same day when I had the surgery - I even posted here a couple of times that same evening.
It went well Wednesday, took about an hour to complete and I spent about 6 hours asleep. General anesthesia didn't have the expected effect on me (nausea, disorientation, etc.), but I did spend 16 hours sleeping on the following Sunday - 8 hours sleep, 8 hours of napping followed by a full night's sleep afterwards! I was in the prep room at 7:45, operated at 9:30 and out at 17:00.
Now I understand why they strongly suggested I not drive for the following 5 days!
I was prescribed some painkillers, but Tylenol was sufficient instead. All in all, it's something I'm recovering very well from. I'm not allowed to exercise until the end of August, but I'M up and around and active.
I have 4 little scars, two of which are barely noticeable. Another one below my sternum is a bit unsigthly, but should relatively hidden once the hair grows back.
The last scar is right above my navel, and that's where they pulled the gall bladder through. It follows the curve so once the scabs fall off it will be virtually invisible.
I'm eating fine (had pizza 5 times since the operation ) and the only complaint I have would be that instead of 4 weeks off I'm getting 3 and a half.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. -Douglas Adams

Glad your recovery is going well.
Not that I would want to go through the pain and trouble you suffered (including your diet for what, 2 months or so?) I wish I had 3 1/2 weeks off.
