cloned hd causes start up problems...
I managed to clone my hd the way I want at last. Yet, when I boot from the clone drive, the system halts just when the blue welcome screen of XP appears (there is a small xp logo on the screen, it is just before you choose the user). I have tried safe modes but all of them halted at the same place. I don't want to re install windows. Does anyone know what the problem is? or is there a way to fix the problem other than reinstalling?
Thanks in advance,
Doruk

Maybe you left the jumper on slave instead of master?

I just read about this in a book called Windows XP Inside Out.
Look on the WinXP CD for some programs called sysprep.exe and factory.exe running these will make it so your system can be cloned. They make be a package that needs to be installed in order to get at them. Microsoft says that the HAL, Hard Disk Controller and Hard Disk Drive must be the same on the master and cloned computer for imaging to work without problems.
