    Missing File Menu in IE

    This is bizarre.

I have multiple windows of IE open. Every time I get into a new window, the "File" menu bar is gone from it. It's still there in my "original" window but I can't get it to appear in any other windows... it's gone from Notepad as well, but still there in Word and Excel.

This happened to me once before, and I don't remember how I fixed it. I do remember that rebooting didn't help.

I am able to move around and turn on and off the Address Bar and Standard Buttons bar, but this is no help.

Now I'm afraid to close my IE window as it's the only one with the File menu in it!

WTF? ANyone know how to fix this?

Using IE 5 if it makes any difference.
    Flash! Don't heckle the supervillain!

Update: The right mouse button is no longer working in IE either. It works in Windows, but will not select links on pages I am on.

Never mind, figured it out. It appears to be a java-based browser hijacker (changed my homepage to a BonziBuddy one... )

Solution: Reboot. When you do, the File command from the menu bar appears on the bottom right corner of the various toolbars. It can be dragged back, the homepage reset, etc.

Stupid Bonzibuddy! Now it's trying to get on MY system too!!!

    Check this key
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\Explorer

If nofilemenu =1 set it to 0 or remove the key entirely... and reboot.

PS dont forget to backup the reg first!

    Sounds familiar...

The same thing has been happening to me on occasion with IE6 under WinXP.

    Rebooting usually solves it.

I'll check out my registry settings (They are OK for now - thanks for the tip, Noo! ) if it occurs again and I'll run AdAware right now to see if anything comes up.

    Hiya

If you have trouble getting rid of BonziBuddy, have a look at this:

Bonzi Buddy is easily removed with Ad Aware. If you don't know about it already, do a quick google search and you can't miss it. Best free proggy ever. Even beats out Winzip in my opinion.
