Unhappy Win 98 se fresh install shut down hang on promise ata133 tx

I posted this on another area of these forums, I would like some answers as the why Win 98 will not shut down just after I install it on my pomise ata 133 tx controller card, I installed the promise drivers as a first measure
    system specs
    Pentuin 4 1.6 ghz
    Asus p4b266
    512 ddr 2100
MSI gforce3 ti 200 with 128 ddr mem
    realtek nic
    SB audigy
Twp 30 gig quatums ata 100 , both set as master, one on each channel on the promise ata133 tx controller
    promise ultra133tx controller
LG cd rom secondary master mode 4
Lg cdrw secondary lsave mode 4
Liteon dvd, primary master ata 33
A real nice case with lots of ventilation

I see folks are having fun with their promise ata controllers and raid controllers under Windows 2000 SP3
I had both controllers, I dumped my fast tract 100 raid controller and replaced it with the Ultra 133 so I could keep my three optical drives
I was wondering why XP was so slow and why ME would take a bit to shut down
I reinstalled Windows 98 se and got the famouse shut down hang bug
I tried every thing. I read the KB and started going through the diagnosis
I could not restart in dos mode so I knew something was interfering ( This is on a fresh install of 98 , no goodies added yet )
I read that some adapter cards could pose a problem. I removed my promise card, connected my boot drive to the mobo and Windows shut down fine. I put the card back in and left the drive connected to the mobo but forgot to put power to my second drive which was connected to the card, The promise bios did not load into memory, Windows shut down OK, Then I shut down and connected power to the second drive that was on the card, I booted up ok , The promise Bios loaded into memory, Windows loaded but would not shut down
MY conclusion is that the promise bios is taken up some memory addresses required for real mode dos to operate, so once it loads it creates a conflict causing the hang bug
I would like to be able to write a file to tell dos to not load into these memory areas, Maybe some on here can help out
More research is in order for us 9x users, For now my promise card is mothballed and my dvd rom drive is not connected
Well this has been a mouth full but maybe it will shed some light for you Win 2000 users

This looks like a bios issue that will not allow for real mode dos, any body got any idea, I need a solution for win 9x and xp or I may be forced to buy an enclosure for my dvd and use that fir waire port
thanks all I know this is long
    Format c I'm givin er all she's got cap'in !!! )

Try this: Start>type MSCONFIG>click OK>click Advanced>if Disable Fast shutdown is checked, uncheck it, otherwise check it if it is unchecked.

    Good Luck,

could also try decreasing the CD-ROM cache...sounds weird, but I've seen it work. I don't really remember where the option is.....I think on System properties>performance

    Wink fixed for now

Well I got the problem sorted out
My hang up on shut down wad due to my promise controller not liking slot # 6 on my board or IRQ 10
Once I moved the controller to slot 5 and allowed it to be assigned IRQ 9 all is working well
I still have to test slot 6 and see of my board is bad ( Hope not )
