I don't know if they're available in the UK but every mechanic I talk to say they never see Subaru Forester in their shop.
The Forester isn't too expensive either, I've seen fully loaded ones around $24K (US). They're just "boxy".
If not that, then an Outback or Outback Sport, both have good room for their size.

You don't see many Subarus in the junk yard. A buddy of mine drives those Subarus, and he dosen't have any problems with them, except for trees jumping out in front of him.
