How do I install VirusScan Online if I get an 'Incorrect VShield Device Driver Version' error?
Question
How do I install VirusScan Online if I get an 'Incorrect VShield Device Driver Version' error message?
Answer
The error message, 'Incorrect VShield Device Driver Version', is commonly received by users that still have retail or OEM VirusScan installed on their computers. To fix this error, uninstall VirusScan (VShield) and reinstall VirusScan Online. Do the following:
Uninstall VirusScan (VShield)
1. From the taskbar, click the Start button > Settings (skip this if using Windows XP) > Control Panel.
2. Double click 'Add/Remove Programs'.
3. Locate 'McAfee VirusScan' in the list of installed software packages. Click it once to highlight it.
4. Click the 'Add/Remove' button.
Note: Follow the instructions on the screen to remove software from your computer. If you are prompted to remove shared files, answer 'Yes to all'. You will need to reboot to complete the uninstallation.
Uninstall ActiveShield, or VirusScan Online
1. From the taskbar, click the Start button > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Double click 'Add/Remove Programs'.
3. Locate 'McAfee ActiveShield' or 'McAfee.com VirusScan Online'. Click it once to highlight it.
4. Click the 'Add/Remove' button.
5. Follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation and reboot your computer.
When finished with these instructions, reinstall VirusScan Online.
