Ok....CMedia 5.1 Audio & XP & Video Complications

I have an ASUS motherboard with onboard C-MEDIA 5.1 Channel sound, and I'm running WinXP.

Since I ran out of money...I had to borrow parts from a friend....thus my video card is a Creative Banshee 16 MB.

My problem is that when I play sounds....and there is any motion on the screen, my sound slows down. Expecially when I'm using 3D Max. Happens with mp3's, wavs, and midis.

I'm ASSUMING it's a sound/video conflict. And the problem SHOULD go away when I get a new video card in 3 weeks. However, if that is an incorrect assumption....I'll post this topic.

When I turn down Windows effects for menues, the problem eases up a little. WMP visualization totally messes it up. I've tried 3 video drivers, and 2 or 3 sound drivers.

Basically....has anyone had a problem like this before?

If I had to describe it I would say the processor is too busy. But it's 1.1GHz AMD.....so I'm just assuming a conflict.

It more than likely is a soundcard/vidcard conflict or just bad vid card drivers. Your best bet is to wait it out until you get a new video card installed to see if the problem goes away. I'm surprised it (the Banshee) works at all.

Try turning down the hardware acceleration for the video card - and winamp visualisations are intensive, so don't run them!

when running the app, do a ctrl + alt + del and open the task manager, this will tell you what resources are being drained, Maybe memmory, processor speed, Make sure you are using the latest C-Media drivers (i hate those cards and they genereally arent up to much I've found) Also, what else do you run when playing MP3's?

Tried lowering video acceleration. No Dice.
Checked Task Manager....Processor was at 7% 110MB of Physical Memory free.

Only programs I usually run are Trillian. But with everything off opening the start menu cause it to slow down. Scrolling on some webpages does it to.

What chipset are you using. If its VIA, install the 4in1's - this will most likely solve the issue your having,

Just as I suspected. I installed a TNT2 16 MB and now I have no sound crackle. A little video lag....but that's because the card sucks.
