[RESOLVED] Printing kills internet connection
Compaq 17XL26X laptop with Windows 98 SE looses dialup to Internet when printing to HP Deskjet 970Cse wtih USB.
Replaced motherboard, Quickrestored, removed all resources to get to 88%, to no effect.
Compaq has no answer, HP has no answer

Sounds like a resource conflict with IRQ's. Have you checked the IRQ list in Device Manager? (in device manager, double click on the "Computer" icon for a list of resources)

Hi,
Yes, it really does sound like an IRQ conflict issue. I have seen printers lose communication with the system while trying to print out web pages but I haven't seen it lose it's dialup connection.
Anyway, just for grins, you might want to check HP's site for the latest drivers:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindex...8370_swen.html
It also has links on the left-hand side of that page for "Solving a Problem" and "Using your Product", etc. It also has links talking about problems with installing the USB drivers...might be something worth checking into.
Good Luck!

Try changing the IRQ of the Modem and test. It sounds like the modem and the USB are using the same IRQ - thus creating a conflict when both are in use.

plug and play or plug and pray?
look in the bios and see if you can manually specify the modem's ressources
