hyperlink issue
Here is the problem:
In all office products (Word, Excel, etc) I cannot open hyperlinks. I can add a hyperlink (eg www.google.com) and click on it and the hourglass pops up breifly and nothing more. No web browser, nothing. Here is the system config: Windows 2000 SP3, IE, Office 2000 with all the latest updates on everything. The problem started occurring a few weeks ago (prior to SP3 install). I have repaired IE and Office. I have not gone so far as to format and reinstall.
Thanks.

I guess there are several things you can check
When you create a hyperlink (say in Word 2000) do you simply type the address in? If so, Word should create the link for you. Right click on it and look at the properties to make sure it is configured to go to a web page
When you click on a link in Word, the status bar should say "Word is preparing to load this document" Is that happening?
Internet connection
Can you connect OK to the same address as you want in the Office documents?
Are you on-line when clicking on the links in Office documents?
When you "repaired" Office, did you do a reinstall of the previous installation? It might be worth going for a custom repair and making sure you have selected the Office tools needed.
Finally, do you have installed any Office SP's?
Just a few thoughts, and
Good Luck

This happens occassionally to me to. That's why I installed Netscape in my machine as well as IE 6.0. When IE starts to 'act up' I make Netscape my default browser. Works well to. For some reason when you start to 'give the action to Netscape' IE gets jealous and starts behaving properly.'
I know this is all very unscientific and sounds rather silly, bit it works.
Good Luck,

You might also check your Downloaded Program Files, or wherever you keep your JAVA and ACTIVEX controls. Check to see if any of your controls are corrupted. IF so, you need to reinstall them.
The only other solution is to re-download and install Internet Explorer.

I reinstalled IE and Office. Netscape was installed by the user (this is the point where her hyperlink issue started).

IF you reinstalled your application and reinstalled your browser, and if your JAVA and ACTIVEX controls are Ok, the only other thing I can think of is that you have a setting that is not enabled. This could be because of setting in your browse, or something else, I'm not sure.
But if it is your browser, first make sure you are online when you click a hyperlink otherwise they won't work. Then (if you are using Win98) go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Settings>Advanced>Restore Defaults.
Do this, restart, and see what happens. If you aren't using Win95 or 98 I can't help you. Sorry.
