Hot Swap Q
I have just been given 5 defunct mobo's. The first I flashed its chip in my Asus P2b and still cannot get a post from the unit. The flash seemed to go fine and the chip was recognised correctly but b4 I bin the board is it worth trying with a different bios chip? Or if the original chip was faulty would the flash have not gone fine?
TIA

Well, it all depends on why the board is defunct, if its due to a bad flash then yes, I would say trry another flash chip You never can tell
Also I'm still looking for a cheapish Asus P2B board if you know of anyone.
One of the reasons you have a faulty flash chip maybe to do with the boot block being over written in a previous flash and not being restored?
Good Luck,

Re: Hot Swap Q
You can try another chip - why not?
But it may be not problem with BIOS chip, though - by the way, what exactly the chip?... it can be problem with voltage regulator as well - it is also quite usual problem (especially with PCChips motherboards )
So, check voltage regulator... make also sure, what there are no any blown capacitors on the board - it could also cause the problem with booting.
Let me know, what exactly the motherboard model, and may be I can help you more...

Gary, it is not nesessary exactly P2B MoBo ...it can be P2B-F, P3B-F, MEB-C (LX, S-370) or another ASUS one with 2Mbit DIP flash IC.

Hi, well the most worthwhile of the dead boards is a Microstar m7vkd. I cant see any physical damage and the unit is failing to post at all with either agp or pci graphics. I thought I'd bought an isa graphics card for these eventualities but it seems the person who sold me the various scrap parts left it out anyway the north bridge fan dosnt work but I am not sure if this is connected. I will get back with the IC type soon.

MicroStar? Are you sure? http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...ocket%20A&ID=3
All the MSI motherboards models are beginning with MS-XXXX
It sounds rather BioStar motherboard for me... http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/manual/socket_a.php3

AMIC 29F002T? An older ASUS aflash utilities (before ver.2.13) worked incorrectly with this particular IC type. Although write process seemed to went O'K, it wasn't true (some unprogrammed gaps were left)...
New aflash utility works correctly... Of course, you can try another chip to be sure...
