Erratic Mouse --- Windows 2000
I have several PC's that are experiencing erratic mouse issues under windows 2000 sp3, the mouse will suddenly drop to the lower left hand corner of the screen and moving the mouse causes it to click and move only along the border without any rhyme or reason. In the past changing to a USB mouse has solved the problem but now that does not appear to be helping and some of my users are becoming frustrated.
Thanks

Do all of these machines have the same hardware configuration? Frequently mouse behavior problems can be traced to either a virus or a conflict with the video driver

ive encountered the same problem with some of our clients... and there were different causes for the mouse cursor acting like that:
1. a bad mouse
2. a bad ps/2 mouse port
3. virus
the most common reason though was a bad mouse (hence changing the mouse would fix it).
i guess thats one setback to the cheap mice prices. =)

also using an optical mouse on a woodgrain surface (or similar pattern) will cause undesirable movement...

And a red surface will really mess things up. I saw a guy with a red design on his mouse pad that, as soon as the mouse was over it, it would function erratically. Then, anywhere else on the pad it was fine. He was hooked on the design, so I talked him into hanging the pad on the wall...

if you really want to try something fun, try an optical mouse on one of those lenticular 3d mouse pads
